Benefits of Embedded Learning Opportunities for Teachers

The kinds of improvements to teaching called for by Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) programs will be more likely if schools provide teachers with learning opportunities that are regular, ongoing, and peer-scaffolded, says Eric Camburn. Programs that create teacher leadership positions and those that encourage structured teacher collaboration are positively and strongly associated with reflective practice. His recent study found the effects of these variables to be twice the size of the effect of traditional professional development. More information is available here.
