Customized Information for School Improvement

March 24, 2014

The Comprehensive Assessment of Leadership for Learning (CALL) is an online survey system that assesses leadership in both elementary and secondary schools. CALL focuses on “distributed leadership,” which recognizes that many people in a school play a leadership role, not merely the principal. All educators in a building take the survey, and each school receives a customized action plan detailing the tasks necessary to improve teaching and learning. The survey avoids grading individuals by focusing on the distributed leadership practices that improve learning.

In a study of more than 3,800 teachers and staff, the CALL survey was able to document variation in school leadership practices across social and economic contexts. The CALL survey accurately captured the quality of school leadership and key characteristics of school culture, while providing a strategy for improving teaching and learning. CALL’s focus on distributed leadership reveals an important new way for educators to guide this improvement. More: http://www.leadershipforlearning.org/
