Measuring the Impact of Advanced Placement and IB Programs
June 5, 2013
The Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN) is collaborating with partners nationwide to increase the number of students of color taking AP/IB/Honors courses. 79 high schools from across the U.S. were selected to participate in the most rigorous study to date on the impact of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) on college completion for Latino, black, and low-income students. Seven of the 35 participating school districts (out of hundreds of applications) are MSAN districts. Increasing the number of students of color taking AP/IB/Honors courses has been one of MSAN's main goals since 2003. The new schools will join the <1% of schools nationally whose AP/IB programs fully reflect their schools' diversity, while improving AP/IB quality and overall school outcomes. The 79 selected high schools will receive match-funded technical assistance, capacity-building support and $1M in funds to fully close AP and IB participation gaps and raise student success.
