Three Goals for K-12 STEM Education

November 26, 2012

A report from the National Research Council establishes indicators for measuring improvements to the K-12 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education system. It sets out three goals for U.S. K-12 STEM education: Expand the number of students who ultimately pursue advanced degrees and careers in STEM fields and broaden the participation of women and minorities; expand the STEM-capable workforce and broaden the participation of women and minorities; and increase science literacy for all students.  Adam Gamoran chaired the National Research Council committee that produced this report, "Monitoring Progress Toward Successful K-12 STEM Education.” More information is available here.
