WCER Launches Sample Proposal Library for SoE Grant Writers

Few graduate programs teach grant writing. Yet education researchers frequently must secure outside funding to test theories and gather evidence on what works in education.

To help School of Education (SoE) faculty, staff, and students apply for—and hopefully win— more grant funding, WCER recently launched the Sample Proposal Library (SamPL). It contains full narratives from 16 funded education grant proposals to federal and foundation grantmakers.

“SamPL is special because the proposals are all written by our UW–Madison researchers,” says Molly Wesling, WCER senior editor. “We expect to expand and modify the collection in the future, as we discover more about people’s needs.”

WCER Director Courtney Bell, who also is a professor of learning sciences whose research analyzes the measurement of teaching and the validity of measures of teaching quality, explained the strategic priority of this new service.

“SamPL is one of the many ways our service staff members are working together with projects to build services that projects need and want,” Bell says. “I could not be more delighted and look forward to contributing to and using SamPL myself.”
