Building Family Engagement in Title I Schools

On Aug. 23 Professors Adam Gamoran and Lynn McDonald will present preliminary results from a federally funded study on systematically building social capital in Title I schools. This study suggests that we can indeed build social capital in elementary schools in poor neighborhoods and, in turn, support  student achievement. The strategy involved adapting an early intervention program called FAST (Families and Schools Together). Increasing parent involvement moved into increasing family engagement. Data on the social capital of the 26 control schools compared with the 26 FAST schools at three years will be presented. More information is available here.
