UW-Madison School of Education Dean Diana Hess appeared Wednesday on WISC-TV's "News 3 This Morning" program to discuss how to talk with students about politics and the elections during these politically charged times.

In the live interview, Hess spoke with WISC’s Adam Schrager, drawing from her expertise in teaching controversial topics in classrooms.

In 2015, Hess co-authored with Paula McAvoy “The Political Classroom: Evidence and Ethics in Democratic Education,” which received the 2016 American Educational Research Association Outstanding Book Award.

Her research interests include the impact of school-based civic education programs on youth, political and civic engagement, and how students experience and learn from discussions of highly controversial political issues.
