MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is proud to announce today the 10th anniversary of the Field Day Lab. This milestone event will be celebrated at UW–Madison's Memorial Union on March 4, 2025, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Since its inception, Field Day Lab, an award-winning game studio and research lab, has been a pioneering effort in educational outreach, leveraging the power of video games to enhance learning experiences. Developed by a dedicated team within WCER, in partnership with educators across the state and researchers across UW–Madison, these learning games are now used by thousands of students daily and millions annually.

The anniversary celebration will feature distinguished guests, including State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly and UW–Madison School of Education Dean Marcelle Haddix. They will highlight the success of this collaborative effort and its positive impact on public education.

Looking ahead, Field Day Lab is excited to introduce a new initiative, “Wisconsin GameWorks.” Launching this spring, the GameWorks Incubator will bring together life-sciences researchers, Wisconsin teachers and game designers to co-create educational games. The most promising concepts will be developed by Field Day Lab.

This initiative aims to deepen students' engagement with scientific research and foster a strong science identity among Wisconsin's youth. By integrating UW research into classroom learning, students will gain virtual access to fieldwork, experimentation and modeling activities conducted by UW labs.
