MacDonald Presents as Invited Speaker for the Multimodal Observation Protocol Project

January 30, 2017

Rita MacDonald was an invited speaker for the Multimodal Observation Protocol Project in the School of Education at the University at Albany-State University of New York on January 21, 2017. Her three-hour workshop, Strengthening Reasoning and Strengthening Language through Collaborative Discourse in Science and Math, was delivered to support the ongoing efforts of a consortium of university faculty and high school teachers from six large urban school districts to develop expertise in multimodal teaching strategies for math and science that are fully inclusive of English Learners.

MacDonald recently published WIDA Focus on STEM Discourse: Strengthening Reasoning, Strengthening Language, one of the products resulting from a thee-year grant from the National Science Foundation. During that time, MacDonald and her collaborators worked with 4th and 7th grade math and science teachers to try out and revise the resources in the document.
