New Grants

The School of Education’s Bonnie Doren and Andrea Ruppar received a grant of $49,994 from the Spencer Foundation for “Rural Special Educators: Surveying the Landscape, Identifying Inroads” through Feb. 29, 2020.


WCER’s Don Gillian-Daniel and Robin Greenler are leading Wisconsin’s portion of a grant, at $514,711, to create and deliver teaching content in multiple formats to improve how STEM faculty create courses and learning environments welcoming to all students. 


Robin Greenler received a $184,498 grant from the National Institutes of Health in a subcontract with prime institution Boston University for “Postdoctoral Pathways Program: Preparing Postdocs for Success along Multiple Career Trajectories” through May 31, 2023.


David Williamson Shaffer received a $175,000 grant from the Department of Defense in a subcontract with prime institution the University of Memphis for “Collaborative Research Development Effort on Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring” through May 9, 2019.


Jed Richardson received a $29,428 grant from the Madison Metropolitan School District for “MMSD AVID/TOPS 2018 Program Evaluation Study Proposal” through June 30, 2019. Jed also was awarded a $29,428 grant from the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County for “AVID/TOPS 2018 Program Evaluation Study Proposal” through June 30, 2019.


Melinda Leko was awarded a $1,248,677 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for “Scholarship in Teacher Education” through Dec. 31, 2023.


Andy Garbacz was awarded a $203,668 grant from the U.S. Department of Education in a subcontract with prime institution the University of Oregon for “Family-Centered Intervention in Schools to Reduce Social and Behavior Problems from Early Elementary School to Adolescence” through June 30, 2023.


Amy Claessens received a $198,311 grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation in a subcontract with prime institution the University of Michigan for “Variation in Early Mathematics Instruction Across Grades and Schools” through Dec. 31, 2019.
